Los Angeles Museum Touring Class
I'm visiting LA this January to offer a touring class on the exciting loan of the NGA's Raphael, the Small Cowper Madonna, to the Norton Simon Museum. This loan is another in the series of visiting masterpieces that we have enjoyed over recent years at the Simon (including Vermeer's "Lady Writing" and Ingres's portrait of Comtesse d'Haussonville). The class will meet at the museum, where we will spend some time discussing background on Raphael before we move on to study the visiting work closely and in conjunction with the Simon's great Renaissance collection. Finally, well spend some time at the end of the class discussing another exciting object currently on view at the Simon: John Cage's "Not Wanting to Say Anything About Marcel," his homage to Marcel Duchamp. This work has not left the Simon's vault in 40 years, so I can't pass up an opportunity to talk with you about it while we can! The class will meet at noon at the Simon, and last 2.5 hours. There are two meetings to choose from (each class is the same; you need only sign up for one):
Thursday, January 20, 12:30 3:00 PM
Saturday, January 22, 12:30 3:00 PM
The tuition for this class is $100 per person, due at time of enrollment, which includes museum admission. Enrollment will be capped at 15 per class.
